“Never Fear” is a reference to a speech given by Lee Kuan Yew in 1965 shortly after Singapore separated from Malaysia.
In that speech, he shared his vision of a resilient, self-sufficient, and multiracial Singapore that belonged to all communities equally, regardless of race, language, or religion. This was a foundational principle of the new nation.
As Singapore began its journey of independence, its future seemed uncertain. But the founding Prime Minister wanted to assure and inspire its citizens. He reminded them of how the modern city was transformed from the mud-flat swamp it was over 100 years before. He promised: “Ten years from now, this will be a metropolis. Never fear!”.
